Launched in 2010, Unilever Sustainable Living Plan is at the heart of Unilever business strategy which commits to double the size of the business while reducing its environment footprint and increasing its social impacts in 10 years. The Unilever Sustainable Living Plan is the strategic response to social and environmental challenges the world faces.

The Unilever Sustainable Living Plan will result in three significant outcomes by 2020, namely:

  1. Doubling the Company’s growth whilst halving the environmental impact of its products across the value chain,
  2. Sourcing 100% of its agricultural raw materials sustainably
  3. Helping more than one billion people take action to improve their health and well-being

With the launch of Unilever Sustainable Living Plan in Vietnam in September 2011, Unilever Vietnam has officially announced its Unilever Sustainable Living Plan  ambition for 2012-2020, furthering its strong commitments to make Vietnamese lives better and become the most admired company in Vietnam though the following specific commitments:

  1. Make more than 20 million Vietnamese lives better by improving their health and well-being
  2. Halve the environmental impact of its business activities and product consumption, focus on saving water , reduce waste, energy and raw material costs
  3. Enhance the livelihoods of millions of Vietnamese as it grows its business

To deliver its USLP commitments which focus on 3 key pillars, namely: (i) improving health, hygiene & well-being; (ii) waste & saving water; and (iii) supporting micro entrepreneurs, Unilever Vietnam has developed long-term public private partnerships with the Government agencies, expanded strategic partnership with NGOs and community organizations as well as joined hands with its customers. Specific examples of these joint efforts and cooperation include:

(i) “For a healthier Vietnam” partnership with Ministry of Health (including 3 projects: Hand washing with soap for a healthier Vietnam, Germ-free toilet journey & P/S Protects Vietnamese smiles)

(ii) “Clean, Green and Healthy Schools” partnership with Ministry of Education & Training

(iii) Job creation and micro financing loans program to Vietnamese women with Viet Nam Women’s Union

As Unilever Sustainable Living Plan is at the heart of Unilever compass strategy, Unilever’s brand have played an active role in delivering the Plan commitments, which are also the brands’ social mission, through innovations (Comfort One Rinse), market development (Lifebuoy-led hand washing; PS’s Protects Vietnamese Smiles; VIM-led Germ-free toilet journey; Knorr-led nutrition education; OMO-led Dirt is good, physical development for children…) with the strategic and close partnerships with Government, NGOs and community engagement.
